Giving into our desire for retro games, Skillzz Gaming brings nostalgic memories flooding back as soon as we load up the game. If you can think back to Super Nintendo or Sega Megadrive games then this is the look and feel we get. From the animated spinning wheel (which is our main hub of the game) to individual levels and the onscreen text throughout, it’s pure, unadulterated 8-bit heaven.

As this game features different levels and is essentially a racing game, we get various vehicles, including cars, boats and planes, rocking a Micro Machines vibe.

Gameplay

When we first load up the game we’re greeted with a practice round, which is a great way to get to grips with the game and fully understand and appreciate all its nuances.

The main screen is essentially a wheel of fortune in 8-bit glory. From here we place our bet and spin. The options available include bonus Experience Points, a Race, a Power Up or a No Race, which is a no win.

For the best experience, we want to land a race symbol as it will take us to the racing screen. On the first level we try out the car, using the cursor keys (when played on computer) to move from left to right and collect treasure boxes as we move up the screen.

Completing the race and avoiding the obstacles gives us more winnings, with each gold coin we collect in race amounting to 1% of our total stake, but Treasure Chests amounting to higher coin wins. We then head back to the wheel and spin again.

We can continue racing and building up our experience to unlock new races, new worlds and new vehicles. This gives us different levels to enjoy and chances to win more. For instance, the first level, Road Race can see us win up to 1,000 times our stake while the Star Blaze can land us 8,000 times our stake.

Verdict

Playing for cash prizes usually brings up thoughts of online slots, scratchcards or casual games that involve matching symbols rather than classic arcade games.

Mega Money Rush is a wonderful balance between all genres. It’s a truly unique game that coaxes out every gamer’s inner video game nerd. More importantly, it’s uber fun and offers generous payouts.
