Wild-O-Tron 3000 takes us into a laboratory via an intro that sees us progress through a variety of robotic doors. There, an obligatory testing machine sits to the right of the reel case, complete with tesla coil on top.

This is serious business. After all, NetEnt is showing us the future of the year 3,000 (we think). The reel case is as if we’re looking through the test subject screen, waiting to see how the robots react to our tests.

There are seven main robots, coloured red, orange, yellow, green and blue, plus two rusty old buckets. It’s the colourful ones which are the higher paying symbols. They’re formed of three parts – head, torso and feet, but these three components each make an individual symbol, giving us stacked symbols and more chances of winning as we go. However, when they join up across the spinning reels, electric strikes blast across the reels before the symbols stack and award us with wins.

The Wild-O-Tron feature also lights up our reels in electric blue, bringing the reelw to life like some sort of robotic Frankenstein’s laboratory.

Gameplay

Due to the setting of the slot, it’s actually really enjoyable to watch the various robot components on the reels, guessing where they’re going to land. Obviously a fully formed robot is better, but as we’re watching from the other side of the glass, we get to enjoy it as a spectator.

The Red Robot is the most valuable, giving us 15 times our stake for five across a payline and the Wild symbol pays out 1.5, five or 25 times our stake for three, four or five on a payline.

When the wins do come in, things really light up with blue lightning strikes shining and zig-zagging across the screen. The robots come into their own when the Wild-O-Tron feature activates. This can occur randomly on any spin and transforms between one and six robots into Wilds. If this happens we can fill the whole reel set with Wilds and win up to 500 times our stake.

Verdict

NetEnt put the creation of winning firmly in our hands on Wild-O-Tron 3000. It’s almost as if we’re the ones in the lab, testing the robots for wins, and it’s this inclusion that makes it such fun to play.

The animation is spectacular and the sound effects are awesome to boot. And it just about gets away with the fact there’s only one bonus feature.
