Microgaming follows up on its hugely popular progressive jackpot, Cash Splash 3 Reel, with Cash Splash 5 Reel. Two more reels must make for a better game, right? Yes indeedy, as it means that Cash Splash 5 Reel boasts a genre-busting 15 pay-lines – quite a thing back in 2004. And, Cash Splash being Cash Splash, this game’s progressive jackpot is linked to its lesser-reeled older sibling. The jackpot is, of course, what we are after. Graphics

Like its predecessor, Cash Splash 5 Reel reserves the honour of its top-paying symbols for 7s, BARs and Cherries, now also fittingly joined by a wad of Cash. 10s through Aces make up the lower-paying symbols, and with the addition of two extra reels and a heap of extra symbols already the graphics are looking like a welcome fresh update on the original.

Land a winning pay-line and the winning combos flash excitedly, with some rudimentary animations coming when the Cash Splash Wild symbol completes winning combinations. Like many slots of its time, Microgaming includes a jumbling sound score that mimics a casino floor, though if I were a betting man I’d say you’ll be hunting out your own tunes to accompany your game-play.


Gameplay

The Bet Max button is now accompanied by a Select Lines toggle, allowing us to vary our bet level if we want to mix up our strategy. That said, though, do be aware that we can only scoop that halcyon jackpot if we play max bet on all 15 pay-lines. Imagine the horror if we decided to switch down our bet level for a spin or two and all five Cash Splash Wilds appeared on the 15th pay-line - the game’s jackpot requirements.

The original game offered additional multipliers with Wild wins, but Cash Splash 5 Reel does away with them and offers Scatter wins instead.


Verdict

Cash Splash 5 Reel is a worthy successor to its classic original. Two extra reels and 14 extra pay-lines bump up the play-ability on a grand scale, though our ultimate jackpot is the very same. While the lack of extra multipliers when the Cash Splash Wilds form winning combos is a miss, the addition of Scatter wins more than makes up for it.

The promising jackpot is as alluring as ever, and as long as it’s around we will always have cause to fire up this classic slot.
