Core Gaming has gone very much along cartoonish lines for its Beehive Bedlam casual game, and why not? Our smiling bee host, Buzz, greets us in Country World, our first pay table stop. Rolling meadows, a farmhouse and lush blue skies make up an idyllic country setting for the first step on our adventure.

As we progress through the bee’s World (we have 10 islands to pollinate) we enjoy other scenarios and vistas that keep the graphics fresh and our eyes lively. Vibrant Flowers of various colours make up most of our base game symbols, while a Beekeeper and Buzz himself complete the line up.

The symbols pop satisfactorily when they score winning combos, allowing more symbols to fall in their place and complete new winning combos. Which pop and allow others to fall in their place...and so on, ad infinitum. When we trigger the Free Falls feature we are introduced to other characters in this Beehive story, namely a mean-looking Boss Man and generous Queen Bee.

Gameplay

So our meat and drink - or pollen and nectar - comes from the collecting of symbols in groups or lines of five or more. The more the merrier.

With each Beekeeper symbol win we add honey to a large jar by the side of the hive. How much honey goes in depends on our stake and our wins. When the jar is brimming we launch the Honey Jar Bonus, not only collecting cash prizes to fill our sticky coffers but also advancing us along the road to pollination and moving us on to the next Island.

Back in the base game we can trigger the Free Falls bonus game by collecting a bunch of three or more Free Falls Scatters. The high-paying Queen Bee and Boss Man now become active, making for every opportunity to scoop the game’s top payout. And should we land all letters in the word JACKPOT at the end of the Free Falls feature we will add the progressive jackpot displayed at the top of the hive to our very own honey jar. Buzzing.

Verdict

It might seem odd that this casual game’s progressive jackpot is less than the top-paying jackpot in-game, but it’s another added bonus to this joyful japery.

The soundtrack is as manic as you might expect from a cartoonish beehive, and will make you want to play with the sound on wherever you are playing.
