Ho Ho Tower is a five reel, 99 payline slot that is set against a snowy backdrop of Hong Kong. During the initial loading screen, we see a beautiful night-time landscape of Hong Kong, cuddled in falling snowflakes.

Then, to wish us well, some of ELK’s most popular slot characters, such as Toro and Lake, appear on screen, smiling, wishing us a Merry Christmas.

After such a warm welcome, the camera zooms in so we enjoy the skyscraper backdrop that helped to make Hong Kong Tower so glitzy. Across the reels we have festive symbols, including Christmas Bonsai Trees, Lotuses, Candy Canes and a Gold Seven. As we progress in our play, snowflakes fall gently down the screen, reminding us that we’ve definitely entered the festive season.


Gameplay

Ho Ho Tower plays in a similar style to its predecessor, which means we can expect a series of great enhancements and bonus features. Take the Mystery Logo feature for example. This symbol can randomly change into any other game symbol, including Wilds, to help form winning combinations.

But it goes one step further. It can also reveal the Blue Yin Yang symbol, which counts as landing five Red Yin Yang Bonus Scatters to trigger the Wheels of the Sky bonus, plus two extra lives. The other way to trigger the feature (there is no Yin without Yang, after all) is by landing three or more Red Yin Yang symbols. When it is active, we see three wheels atop the roof of the tower.

The first wheel spins and rewards us with cash, but if we land on the Level Up symbol, we move to the second wheel. Again, we can win bigger cash prizes, but our aim is to level up to the third wheel, where we can win 500 times our total stake. Unlike Hong Kong Tower, this version gives us an extra chance to level up on the first wheel, further increasing our chance to progress and win big. It’s a nice little festive treat, which we can enjoy anytime we play this slot, so it’s worth keeping that in mind when planning trips to Hong Kong via ELK Studios’ slots.


Verdict

Ho Ho Tower has a delicate, wintry feel to it, with snowflakes cascading down the screen and baubles on the Bonsai Tree.

It definitely feels like a brand new slot, not just a Christmas version of another. Even better, with no mention of Santa or elves, we can play this any time of the year without feeling any pre or post-Christmas guilt.
