While some modern King Kong themed slots have gone the way of recent movies and gone full throttle with HD images and chest-pounding sounds (NextGen’s King Kong Fury is a perfect example), Blueprint has gone down its more trademark, light-hearted route and brought a cartoonish bent to King Kong.

Gameplay

Not only are the graphics lampooning, but so are the sounds. The apeish grunts that Kong utters and the boings and biffs that accompany his actions wouldn’t be out of place in a console game.

But, as with many an online slot, it is the bonus features that really bring this game to life. The randomly-triggered Banana Cannon Wilds send Banana Wilds onto the reels, the Golden Barrel Super Spin sees Kong hurl golden barrels onto the reels that reveal matching symbols, while the King Kong Spin Streak witnesses Kong respin a winning spin to deliver a bigger, better win.

Or, the Bonus Boost will see Kong throw additional Kong Bonus Scatters onto the reels in a bid to launch the dedicated King Kong Trail feature. We need three Scatters to trigger the bonus and, in doing so, Kong unleashes a great smash of his hammer onto the spinning bonus wheel.

We then land either the Barrel Blast, King Kong Trail Bonus, Empire Free Spins, Golden Kong Free Spins or, the ultimate, Big Monkey Bonus. We have the option to gamble any feature we land, though there aren’t any guarantees we will land the feature we are aiming for.

Verdict

Zooming off to the jungle to lock horns with a giant gorilla might not sound like an ideal way to spend an evening, but this affable ape is an agreeable host. Not least because he is intent on offloading barrels full of his piles of riches, of which there are plenty.

The bonus features are readily occurring, meaning its not too long between spins that we enjoy either a randomly-triggered bonus game or a dedicated feature.

It’s certainly hot in this jungle, and we’re just the kinds of slots fans who are eager to take advantage of that kind of action.
