The Narcos slot has a Grand Theft Auto feel to it. The style of the characters, background and their appearance on the reels reeks of GTA: San Andreas. Not in a bad way. Though instead of CJ, we’ve got Pablo Escobar and the dark underworld of Columbia in the 1980s.

NetEnt used a video game feel in its Dead or Alive II slot, another NetEnt smash hit, though that release was more cartoonish (though at least as enjoyable). The vibe on show here just makes the slot even more exciting. The low value symbols are made up of Jack through to Ace, each having a crime-related image around it, such as guns or grenades!

The medium value symbols feature a Flamingo and an Airplane while the high paying symbols comprise of a Blonde Lady, Steve Murphy and Javier Pena (DEA agents) and an Escobar Enforcer. When the symbols land on the reels, we get a nifty little animation, such as their hair flicking up, giving the impression that some serious action is about to go down. And it does.

Gameplay

With 243 Ways to Win, we’re already well equipped to land more winning combinations. But Narcos ramps up our immersive experience. In the base game it seems odd to say that we can look forward to the Drive-by feature, in which a car arrives from behind the reels and BANG! We see bullet holes appear in the symbols, which then transforms some of the high value symbols into Wilds.

We would never, ever recommend a drive-by shooting. But in this instance…okay, let’s move on. The DEA Badge is our main Wild symbol and helps trigger the Walking Wild feature. When this happens the Wild stays on the reels and moves horizontally across to the left on each spin. This helps to create more winning combinations until the symbol disappears completely.

The main feature of the slot is the Locked Up feature, triggered when three or more Locked Up symbols appear on the same row. We get a Multiplier, Free Spins and the chance to win the Golden Lock Up, which yields further prizes. And this is on top of the traditional Free Spins feature which combines the Walking Wilds with ten Free Spins. The more Walking Wilds, the more spins we get. Verdict

Narcos crams a lot into one entertaining slot. Sure, we get drug lords, drive-bys and a look into the belly of Pablo Escobar’s world. But on the slots, this isn’t so bad. Especially when we can win up to 1,506 times our stake using the Walking Wilds. And who said crime doesn’t pay?
