Rich Wilde and the Aztec Idols Slot

If Gonzo from Gonzo’s Quest was transformed from an animated character into a real-life model, he would look a bit like Rich Wilde. Though sadly there are no Avalanche Reels or moonwalking adventurer. That’s not a bad thing, though, as it lets us appreciate the epic jungle backdrop and Aztec designs. Compared to some of the slots this might look a bit outdated now, but that only enhances the ‘ancientness’ (is that a word?) of the Aztec designs.

The card values Jack to Ace are the low value symbols, all carved with intricate, runic type designs. Four different masks make up the high paying symbols while Rich Wilde is the…you guess it…the Wild. He contrasts with the ancient symbols around him as he appears like a modelled sprite, animating when he substitutes for all game symbols.

The Golden Pyramid is the Scatter and can brighten up the screen when it appears to activate the game’s chief bonus round, while the Aztec Sunstone is the second Scatter that triggers the Free Spins feature.

As a five reel, 15 payline slot, Rich Wilde and the Aztec Idols is simple and easy to play. Which is part of why it’s so fun!

When the Scatter symbol appears on the third, fourth and fifth reels, it triggers the Pick the Idols bonus round. We move to a new screen and pick one of the idols which gives us cash rewards, until we find one containing a noxious gas that ends the round.

The Sunstone Free Spins feature is triggered when the Sunstones appear on the first, third and fifth reels. The Sunstone spins two inner wheels spin - the first wheel reveals our extra Scatter for the game while the second wheel informs us of how many Free spins we get. It’s a fun take on Free Spins, giving us between 10-20 Free Spins with the chance of an additional Scatter…despite the fact that the Free Spins can’t be retriggered.

Odd, right? But who can argue with the Aztec idols?

Verdict

Rich Wild and the Aztec Idols is a must-play slot if you are a fan of story-based, character-driven slots. Give Lara Croft a rest for a while and see what Rich is up to on one of his outings. This slot is quick and easy to play and even easier to understand.

So yeah, it’s not the most original slot and we see Rich evolve over the later slots, but with two bonus features and readily occuring (Rich) Wilds it’s definitely one worth playing. Especially when we can bag a 5,000 coin win on each spin!
