NetEnt procured the hotcake rights to the Vikings hit show, leaving other developers green with envy. This means we get to see Ragnar once again (spoiler alert for anyone catching up!).

When we load this slot up, we’re inside the Oracle’s hut, before the camera zooms in to the lush landscape of Kattegat. The reels are presented before we get to see our favourite Vikings characters as high paying symbols, including Ragnar, Lagertha, Floki and Bjorn. Each spin leaves us in a trance as the warriors appear before us.

The background changes colour depending on the bonus rounds, going from the beautiful light scenery of Kattegat, to a fiery battlefield when we’re rampaging on a raid in the Raid Spins feature. With little snippets of ships sailing, battles commencing and characters yelling war cries, we feel as if we’re fighting right alongside Ragnar and swinging our own swords in unison.

Gameplay

When playing the Vikings slot, we could be present on a Viking battlefield. Not just because of Odin’s crow flying across the screen during our wins, but because of each character reminding us that we’re raiding for riches. This is turned out superbly in the Hotspot feature.

When a fully stacked Viking character lands on a Hotspot on the third reel, all other Vikings transform into that same symbol. For instance, all Floki and Lagertha symbols will transform to Bjorn symbols, hauling in massive wins. The Shield Wall feature (many fans’ favourite shout from the show – SHIELD WALL!) – appears as a cluster of mystery symbols, randomly rewarding us with transforming symbols.

But the Raid Spins is the main feature of the slot, which is triggered when three or more Raid Spins symbols land scattered on the reels. All of a sudden, this slot now expands to seven reels and a truly epic 78,125 Ways to Win. We get seven Raid Spins, three Hotspots on the third, fourth and fifth reels and the potential to win up to 10,000 times our stake. On each spin. Now that’s a raid worth remembering.

Verdict

We’re going to stick our necks out on the slots battlefield and say that NetEnt’s Vikings slot is one of the best slot TV adaptations. Ever.
